چکیده
UNLABELLED In this study, we devised a new concept for the precise nanofabrication of Au-Si fibrous nanostructures using megahertz femtosecond laser irradiation in air and atmospheric pressure conditions. The weblike fibrous nanostructures of Au thin layer on silicon substrate, which are proposed for the application of solar cells, exhibit a specific improvement of the optical properties in visible wavelength. Varying numbers of laser interaction pulses were used to control the synthesis of the nanofibrous structures. Electron microscopy analysis revealed that the nanostructures are formed due to the aggregation of polycrystalline nanoparticles of the respective constituent materials with diameters varying between 30 and 90 nm. Measurement of the reflectance through a spectroradiometer showed that the coupling of incident electromagnetic irradiation was greatly improved over the broadband wavelength range. Lower reflectance intensity was obtained with a higher number of laser pulses due to the bulk of gold nanoparticles being agglomerated by the mechanism of fusion. This forms interweaving fibrous nanostructures which reveal a certain degree of assembly. PACS 81.05.Zx; 81.07.-b.

Strong infrared absorber: surface-microstructured Au film replicated from black silicon.
With quasi-periodic microstructures, great enhancement of infrared light absorption of Au film over a broad wavelength band (2.7~15.1 μm) was realized experimentally for the first time. The microstructured Au film was prepared by replica molding of the surface of femtosecond (fs) laser microstructured silicon (black silicon). This unique absorption characteristic is mainly ascribed to good impe...
متن کاملFemtosecond Laser-induced Surface Texturing and Crystallization of A-si:h Thin Film
Hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) thin films have been considered for use in solar cell applications because of their significantly reduced cost, however, the overall efficiency and stability are less than that of their bulk crystalline counterparts. Limited work has been performed on solving the efficiency and stability issues of a-Si:H simultaneously. In this study, both surface texturi...
متن کامل3-D aluminum nanostructure with microhole array synthesized by femtosecond laser radiation for enhanced light extinction
This article presents 3-D aluminum micro-nanostructures for enhanced light absorption. Periodic microhole arrays were created by firing a train of femtosecond laser pulses at megahertz pulse frequency onto the surface of an aluminum target at ambient conditions. The laser trains ablated the target surface and created microholes leading to the generation of deposited nanostructures inside and ar...
متن کاملFemtosecond laser hyperdoping and micro/nanotexturing of silicon for photovoltaics
We have developed a technique, optical hyperdoping, for doping semiconductors to unusually high levels and endowing them with remarkable optoelectronic properties. By irradiating silicon (Si) with a train of femtosecond laser pulses in the presence of heavy chalcogen (sulfur, selenium, and tellurium) compounds, a 100-300 nm thin layer of Si is doped to nonequilibrium levels (~1 at. %). Hyperdop...
متن کاملRemote and rapid micromachining of broadband low-reflectivity black silicon surfaces by femtosecond laser filaments.
We report an approach for remote and rapid fabrication of a broadband low-reflectivity black silicon surface by ablating crystalline silicon with femtosecond laser filaments in air. Porous microstructures on the processed silicon surface are formed, resulting in a significantly enhanced light trapping efficiency in a broadband (UV-IR) spectral range. It is found that the air filament can signif...
